Daniel doesn't have time to even attempt to light anything. It's a miracle he doesn't drop the cigarette from his lips because Lestat is there suddenly, too close. Even with his youthful arrogance he's reminded once more that creatures like the one before him are predators. His heart's beating fast, getting goosebumps as that thumb brushes against his neck. It takes a remarkable amount of self restraint from someone who doesn't have much in the first place, but he manages to outwardly keep as calm as possible.
